What Kylie is watching at the moment (in no particular order):
Brothers and Sisters: My guilty pleasure. Can’t get enough of it and I’m looking forward to the season finale later today. It feels like it’s been on a lot longer than three seasons…
Better Off Ted: Best new show of the season. Portia De Rossi is awesome, enough said.
Kings: I didn’t expect to like this show, as it didn’t sound like something I would like. But seeing Chris Egan (ex. Home and Away), back on the small screen in a proper show, got me watching it and it turns out, it’s really good.
The Secret Life of the American Teenager: Well because I like bad teen dramas, no matter what age I am. I just want to know more about Amy Juergens and her baby!
Packed to the Rafters: I feel I have to watch at least one Aussie drama and this one seems like the least painful. Also gives me a TV show to talk about, that other people have actually seen. Now I just need to catch up with the rest of Australia…
One Tree Hill: To be honest, I am not sure why I still watch this show. I loved it at the beginning, but now I just spend the episode asking myself ‘why?’ I have this thing where once I watch a certain amount of a show, I must keep watching, another example of this: Privileged (which I now want back surprisingly).
Entourage: I have a feeling I don’t even like this show anymore, yet I keep watching it…
Make It or Break It: As I said before, I like terrible teenage dramas. I’ll be with them to the end.
Cupid: Well with only 8 episodes or so, I might as well watch it all. It’s an easy show to watch, although the first episode was the best.
30 Rock: I get the same feeling I do about Entourage with 30 Rock, I keep watching in the hope it gets better. You can do it 30 Rock! Make Tina Fey funny again!
I promise I do like good TV shows as well, just waiting for How I Met Your Mother, My Boys, Gavin and Stacey and Gossip Girl to return.
I have realised in writing down my favourite shows that they are all character driven. So having said that there is no need for me to explain why I watch
* NCIS….especially Ducky who was, if you can believe it, a heart throb as Illya Kuryakin in the man from UNCLE in the 60′s.
* Amazing Race….although this season is a little dull but I still must watch.
* Castle…when will it return?
* Stephen Fry in America……anything with Stephen Fry is a must see….when will we get Qi on Australia television?
* Bones….especially the episodes with Stephen Fry
* MASH …. because I do and repeats are fine thank you.
* Spicks and Specks
* Burn Notice….it’s only just returned and there’s nothing else to watch on a Thursday at the moment.
* New Tricks…..I do have a thing for British cop shows….just not the Bill. So I like
*Law and Order UK as well
Get yer peepers around ‘FM’. its on ITV, which in Australia means its on ABC2. And its funny.
Hey, it stars Mr. IT Crowd himself and some other people. ‘FM’ has now been added to my seemingly never ending list of ‘shows I’m going to watch’.
-Weeds
-Nip/Tuck: A show that has hooked me even though the characters are immensely unlikeable
-Glee
-Supernatural: Didn’t like it at first but it’s grown on me
-Dante’s cove: Soap-esque acting + supernatural themes= guilty pleasure
-OZ: Christopher Meloni is superb…
-It’s always sunny in philadelphia: So funny, don’t know why I didn’t love it immediately when I first saw it
-House
It’s always Sunny in Philadelphia – next best thing to Curb
Wainy Days – David Wain is staring to realise his true potential
The Wire – enough said
1.) Doctor Who – Tenth Doctor was my first, and like so many other, David Tennant’s performance won me over. But even though he’s moved on to other projects, Matt Smith is a great replacement and it’s still the best sci-fi show ever created
2.) Family Guy: Can’t help it. I love Stewie lol
3.) Top Gear: You don’t even have to like cars to love this show. Hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May always keep me laughing!
4.) House M.D. – It’s Hugh Laurie being a cranky, drug-addicted diagnostician, I mean, what other reason do you need?
5.) Lie to Me – Two words. TIM ROTH. ’nuff said.
6.) Supernatural: I was hooked immediately after seeing the characters encounter various folkloric creatures, but then eventually fell in love with the characters themselves. It’s a well-written story with deep emotion that lets you get to know the characters without straying from the plot. Castiel = <3
The Inbetweeners…well cast, great comic timing…
I love it
I wrote out a much longer response to this review, which I found when it came up after a google searched “Rake abc review”. I was just about to submit when I thought I would check out your “What am I watching” tab first.
I retracted everything I wrote when I realised that lovers of good Australian shows like ‘Rake’ should actually be offended had someone with your fecal loving taste buds actually enjoyed it.
Oh yes, because something as wonderful as Rake couldn’t be appreciated by somebody who liked Treme…
What show on this list brought out the false sense of superiority in you? Is it How I Met Your Mother? Glee?
You’re one of THOSE viewers aren’t you? One of those “ABC viewers” I talked about in my review of Rake whose nose gets upturned at the first sight of something… god help us… AMERICAN. Is that it?
What you seem to be suggesting is that you’re far more intelligent and wonderful because you enjoy a Richard Roxburgh snooze fest on the ABC and I include a show where people sing in a list of ‘shows I am watching’. How is it possible we live in a world where somebody can enjoy both The Wire and Glee? What madness is this?! What craziness is going on?!
Pzil, you’re an ass. That’s totally okay. You’re not an ass because you think I have ‘fecal loving taste buds’, you’re an ass because you think that your taste in everything is so perfect that it should be the envy of all who meet you. Rather than argue your point that Rake was good you acted like a child by suggesting that ‘obviously Rake was good because I liked it!’. Good point. Well done. I’m sure lovers of good Australian shows are proud to have somebody like you on their side.
Currently, I’m watching:
Castle (it’s one of the only shows in existence that my brain is happy to switch off and actually allow me to enjoy, possibly because of my epic man-love for Nathan Fillion).
The Chicago Code – this show is great, it has a distinctly unique visual style, great characters with great performances and an unusual narrative style that works well. Easily my favourite new show of the year.
Glee – it’s not that good, really, but I like the music.
House – Hugh Laurie is consistently brilliant. Enough said.
Community – The second season hasn’t been as good as the first, there have been more ups and downs in the quality of episodes. The last episode was a return to form, however.
Justified – Season 2 has been even better than season one. It’s been consistently great and a joy to watch.
Game of Thrones – Fantastic stuff.
The Killing – I’m not going to lie, this one surprised me. I’m not sure why – AMC has been producing the goods without a hitch so far – but it did. It’s dour and moody and richly realised. I love that it’s a different take on a cop show, it’s just the one case being delved into with incredible depth, portraying the effects, the damage, that’s been caused by this one murder and the ripple is surprisingly far reaching. Great characters, great performances, solid writing – fantastic show.
The Borgias – I’m not sure about this one, honestly. I watched the double episode pilot but wasn’t too impressed by any one feature. I might give it a few more episodes to make a mark.
Camelot – I’m a huge Arthurian nut, so I couldn’t *not* watch this and…it does some things surprisingly well, and does others surprisingly bad. Certainly it’s treatment of Merlin has been interesting. No point discussing it really as no matter the quality, I have to keep watching.
Being Human – This show is still a relatively unknown (it seems) underdog in the sci-fi world. It certainly isn’t appreciated to the degree it should be, it has so much going for it; occasionally funny, dramatic, sad, scary, and even romantic, it’s got it all (with some hokey elements in there as well, it must be said) and it doesn’t undervalue its characters or their development simply because it’s science fiction, it’s adult in its treatment which I appreciate.
Misfits – Brilliant. Can’t say enough about it. Can’t wait for it to return.
Doctor Who – Just about to come back! So excited.
United States of Tara – hasn’t quite found its feet yet in this 3rd season I feel, but it shouldn’t be too long, not with such a good cast and good writing.
That’s all I can think of at the top of my head, I’m sure there’s more!
In their footsteps 6.30pm Channel 9. Looking forward to your review. I thought it did a good job of a well covered topic.
Not really watching it yet but…..Chris Lilley is back with his new show Angry Boys ABC1 @9pm. Can’t wait for this.
House M.D…. Although Season 7 was the weakest yet, Hugh Laurie is superb and gives a master class in acting each week to the rest of the cast.
This stuff makes for interesting reading. Here are mine
1) Downton Abbey. I was going to describe this as the new Upstairs Downstairs until I realized that there actually was a new Upstairs Downstairs. But it is better than both. on Blu Ray purchased from Amazon.uk. definitely not the badly promoted & advertisement-soaked offering from the Seven network.
2) The Walking Dead. The new Lost. once you accept the essential premise that the world has been taken over by zombies it is completely compulsive & addictive.
3) Parks & Recreation. a first class mockumentary series that proves that some Americans don’t just get irony, they can actually create it. i feel like saying that Amy Poehler is the new Tina Fey. there you go. i just did.
4) White Collar.quirky procedural crime drama with a particularly watchable lead. file under guilty pleasures.
5) 30 Rock. still good but as another reviewer has indicated the cracks are beginning to show. please get funny again Tina Fey and dump that homophobic idiot Tracy Morgan while you do (although at least now we know why Morgan’s portrayal of a homophobic idiot is so convincing).
6) Glee. good to watch in formats that allow you to fast-forward through the boring bits. which is all the story-lines except when Jane Lynch is on camera. basically all of it except the music numbers.
7) Game Of Thrones. i actually don’t watch this because i am not a fan of fantasy but my partner is obsessed by it. kinda like Lord Of The Rings meets The Tudors meets the Godfather. sex, lies and tunics.
* after writing the comment about ‘Parks & Recreation’ I read that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are actually good friends and studied together. which i guess explains the similarity in their style. Poehler might be the new Fey but apparently only by 16 months
ANGRY BOYS!!! top of the list for SURE. also – been soaking up loads of ABC shows – eg. Shrink Rap, done by Pamela Connely, Billy Connely’s wife, who does a BRILLIANT job. ‘Hustle’ is a BRILLIANT production – both of the series to come out recently have easily equaled their earlier efforts. I’ve been watching ‘Time Team’ everyday on ABC, it’s a great show and Tony Robbins makes it irresistible. There’s been some FANTASTIC television on ABC lately – BIG kudos to the ABC for some awesome programming. : )
Haven, Alphas, NCIS, Warehouse13, CSI Miami, DAYSTAR~Hal Lindsey, Its Supernatural, Jewish Voice, Zoloft Ministries and so forth….
Not much! Top Gear repeats, Big Bang repeats, 2.5 Men repeats.
Currently Airing Series’…
~ Flashpoint – I highly recommend this show and would love to see your review of this show!
~ Hawaii Five-0
~ Criminal Minds
Finished Series’ (courtesy of my box-sets)…
~ NUMB3RS – I also did not find a review for this show, it is a finished series, but is still my favourite show.
~ Torchwood (BBC)
Would just like to recommend a shows here that I hope you might review and enjoy ’cause it’s one amazingly under-rated, under-advertised show!
Flashpoint – CTV, Canada <This is a must see! It pure Canadian TV – acting, writing, crew, setting – (gold)platinum!!
There are 2 other shows that I personally love and always love to share…
~ NUMB3RS – CBS, USA (aired '04-'10)
~ Father Ted – Channel 4, UK (Irish comedy show about 3 priests. Aired during the '90's until the lead sadly died of a heart attack. So it's not got too many episodes but it's utterly hilarious.)
Just been watching a BBC comedy online; “Mrs Brown’s Boys”. Although it’s a studio based sit-com it breaks all the rules and is probably the funniest BBC comedy since Fawlty Towers ….. and that’s saying something.
This is my list..
At the moment i’m watching:
Justified season 2 (suprisingly good!)
Homeland (Good serie)
Underbelly Razor (dreaming of season 1…)
Breaking Bad season 4 (It makes me feel sad, but still one of the best series i ever saw on television)
Weeds season 6 (nice, but by far not as good as Breaking Bad)
You say what are you watching?
you can say that again, who knows these days or nights, the programmers have lost the plot, Programs old, repeats, Overweight programs boring, food programs just to much, selections for viewing, bad as can be, seems the viewing public does not count anymore, it used to be good, but whats happening, showing things in prime time the kids should not see,
acountability seems to have gone, maybe mature minds are needed, comen sence must be applied, Tv Week must be having a fit as forcasts are wrong most of the time, Chanel seven has always done it right, or used to, dont follow Channel Nine they dont have a clue.
Sit down use the think Tank and think of your viewing public, im sure your sponsers will love it. do somthing positive and creative, and be cosistant for heavens sake.
your devoted viewer
Woodley. Cricket. The today show.
Great Expectations
Top Gear
Old classics on 7two and 7mate
-Spooks: cause it keeps its edge every season.
-Up All Night: Because its relevant to me
-The New Girl: I didnt get into it cause it was to like Happy Endings. Now I’m finally on board I cant get into Happy Endings. Weird.
-Homeland: I really want to watch episode 3 but whenever an opportunity comes up it seems like to much work.
-Season 2 of Justified: Apparently this is better than season 1 and I love whatever they are calling Seth Bullock these days.
Smash
New Girl
Just finished Boardwalk Empire SE 2
Next – Mad Men SE 5
Portlandia
Grandma’s House
Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries
The re-runs of Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends
Twin Peaks Season 1 on DVD
Can’t wait for Season 2 of Haven to be aired, for all the terrible acting and concocted plot lines it was fun =)
Parks and Recreation. It took me a really long time to get into it – and it still doesn’t make me laugh out loud like 30 Rock (I think I’m only comparing them because of the Amy Poehler/Tina Fey connection), but I’m SO connected to the characters now that I am actually grinning when things go well for them and I don’t think that’s ever happened to me with a TV show before. I also love the guest spots (especially Will Arnett – when is the new Arrested Development starting??!!)
Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries – finished this morning, and started watching on Wednesday. I’ve read up on your reviews, and I agree that it has been a bit disappointing. On the other hand, I was so amazed that there was an actual half decent Australian drama that I can’t dislike it too much.
Randling – I really like comedy. And I’ve missed Thank God You’re Here.
Game of Thrones – waiting for the whole second season before I start watching, but I did really enjoy the first season.
Q & A, Adam Hills in Gordon St Tonight – on and off
Shows which have finished/I am now waiting for:
Sherlock – this is actually my favourite show of all time I think.
Doctor Who – really hoping the new companion is good/interesting/different and that the new series is better than the last one. And lacking River Song. Please.
The Thick Of It – funny and wonderful performances all round. What’s not to like? I think my second favourite show.
Dexter – it has its moments
Community – it’s somehow just really enjoyable
